I was just on Facebook and reading so many posts about the kindness of others. How awesome people are. I click on Internet Explorer nigh unto everyday and am bombarded with stories like "man identified from shooting," "man murders wife," and "beware hurricane is coming right at you," headlines. It is just really depressing, even if it is just a glance at them. It kind of makes me start to think that the world is a horrible place full of murders, adulterers, liars, cheats, theifs, basically horrible people. Then I got on Facebook real quick and read things like "Thank you for the bag of presents someone left for us, what a kind surprise," and "this kind nurse sang a song to my little baby in the hospital." Stuff like that.
So people really are good. There is kindness and love all around us. I just want to hug all the people that are being so nice. It makes me so happy.
I think I am okay nice person, but being generous doesn't come naturally to me. Ask my sisters. If Kenni ever even thought about borrowing my clothes, I would scream at her and punch her when we were kids. I didn't like sharing. I hated people eating my food or wanting to spend time with me unless it was the people I wanted to share it with. Tyson is much better at wanting to be nice to people. He comes up with ideas of how to give to people all the time, especially at this time of year. I am just lucky and get to help and usually end up with the credit of everything even though I do only a little.
In the class I teach at church, the 14-15 year old girls, we have been learning about the Savior. It seems like I am always just beginning to see how incredible His sacrifice was and is. I can't fathom how hard it must have been for Heavenly Father and Mother to send their Son to Earth and then to see so many be cruel to Him and then to hurt Him and then kill Him. How much they must love us to let us treat Him so poorly. And They did it all so we had hope of returning to Them. That is like talking about eternity with me, I just can't wrap my brain around it. I just know it is incredible.
So thank you everyone that is following our Savior's example and helping others. I hope I can be more like you in the coming weeks and years.
I love this post because I have been thinking about this a lot lately. The other day, my mom was mailing Jake's Christmas package to him and a stranger behind her donated $20 for the cause. Totally out of the blue but SO kind! Then I saw on facebook that one of my friends was getting dinner at a Wendy's and the car in front of them paid for their dinner. Seriously, it makes me want to go out and do things like that for people. What a great example they are! It reminds me of what this season is truly about and makes me want to be like that all year round. Truly that is what we are supposed to do.
ReplyDeleteYou're always so positive! And you are VERY generous... You are generous with your time and abilities. :) I think that's the best kind of generosity.
